Reportable to Reimagine the News Release

Key Takeaways
  • Reportable's founders committed up to $200,000 in seed funding to reimagine the news release.
  • Development to begin immediately on a new PR software product.

Boston, MA -- February 22, 2017 -- Reportable's founders have committed an initial investment of their own capital and resources to modernize the dated and often ineffective news release. The company will begin development of a do-it-yourself software to let PR professionals create news releases tailored to the needs of reporters and designed to attract more engagement on social media.

Development will begin immediately on a web-based software that lets users design, collaborate on, and distribute news releases in a new way. All releases will come with unlimited video and images, key takeaways, call to action buttons and more. The goal is to create a comprehensive alternative to traditional newswires.

The distribution model will rely exclusively on sending out the headline and summary to bring readers back to a dedicated microsite. The microsite will give reporters everything they need and give the news issuer total insight into the news release analytics.

“Traditional wires cost a lot, don't give reporters what they need, and haven't adapted to how media and consumers find news today,” said Tom Baker, co-founder or Reportable. “Releases must provide the images and videos reporters need, look great on social media to get shared, and give news issuers greater analytics.”

Reportable expects its initial live testing to begin Fall 2017. Future features being evaluated include an integrated media database, electronic distribution, SEC disclosure capabilities, social and media monitoring, AI-based content optimization, enhanced web visibility and more.
